Welcome to the Maungatapere School website.
Maungatapere School is a rural school situated on the outskirts of Whangarei about 15 kms on the road to Dargaville.
We are a full primary school, catering for approximately 290 Y1-8 pupils (5-13 year olds) with 11 classrooms and teachers plus special needs teachers and support staff.
Our community are actively supportive of our school, participating in many learning and social activities throughout the year. The school is well used by the community for weekend and after school activities.
We are privileged to have large playgrounds, native trees on site, a hall, library, pool, shaded adventure playgrounds for junior and senior pupils and recently upgraded facilities.
We have a tradition of academic, sport and music success. Pupils are able to learn a range of instruments at the school and participate in a wide range of sporting events.
ANZAC FIELD OF REMEMBRANCE
School will be holding it’s own field of remembrance ceremony next Monday, 30 March at 2pm. White crosses will be placed by the children on the front field area during the commemoration. Parents are welcome to attend.
VANUATU AID RELIEF
No doubt you have all heard or seen footage of the devastation Cyclone Pam caused throughout the islands and villages when it hit Vanuatu on 13 March. One of our school families, Reece and Sonja Guy have family in the village of LaMin where everything has been destroyed. Together with other family members they have organised a 20ft container to be filled with much needed items that will be leaving for Port Villa on April 2nd.
If anyone has any second hand goods to donate to this cause they would be gratefully accepted, a gold coin donation for help with transporting the goods to Auckland would also be appreciated. Money donations can be left at the school office, see the contact numbers below for other donated items.
Below is an idea of some of the things needed: First aid kits, bedding, clothing, footwear, books, pens, balls, kitchen utensils, plastic bowls, plates, washing powder, soap, disposable nappies, buckets, 20ltr drinking containers, tarps, ropes, pegs, folding camp chairs/tables, hand tools, hammers, screws, nails, staples, chicken mesh, spades, wheel barrows, chainsaw and non perishable food items, ie. cans, milk powder, milo, peanut butter etc. No electrical goods thanks.
